Blimey, the Vet Stole Our Blood

Blimey Charlie mates, we went to the Vets yesterday and she STOLE our blood.  It all started as a nice quiet Wednesday.

Mum decided she needed to go shopping.  Needed to mum?  Or just plain wanted to.  Hmmm.  We'll let the readers decide that one.    She said we needed dog food.  Well she totally forgot the dog food but she did come back with this:

She said now we can have a cuppa and some toast for dinner every night and she'll never have to cook again.  The family told her "She's dreamin".

Anyhoo, back to the story.  Mum was meeting us at the Vets cause she was running late.  She was waiting and waiting and then got a phone call from Dad.  HE WAS VERY CROSS!!!

Rory would not get in the car!  Now I thought it was hilarious.  I was sitting in the car, calling him, laughing at Dad and having a wonderful old time.  There was Dad, trying his best, but Rory would not get in.  He went and hid under the bushes.  Rory, not Dad!

Dad doesn't know why he wouldn't get in.  Usually Mum is with us so we reckon he was just being a total SOOKY LA LA.  I couldn't help it Stellie, I was a bit scared and wanted mum.  That's ok Rory, everyone knows you are a Mum's boy.  It was bloomin' funny though.  Hehehehe.  Well, I thought so but Dad had a different opinion.   Anyhoo, Dad got some treats and before he could say "Rory, get in that blxxxy car" he jumped in easy as, and off they went.

We did get our seat belts put on!

So we got to the Vets for our yearly immunisation.  All is going well. We are both a bit nervous cause we haven't been for a while butt our Vet Anna is lovely and a very gentle person so we relax and we're "Good Dogs".  Anna gives us liver treats, then mum gives us some and before we knew what was happening we had been jabbed and didn't even know it.

We are feeling happy.  Mum, Dad and Anna are jabbering away and then we hear "blood test" and wonder what the heck is going on.  Apparently since we changed our Dog School and are driving down to the big smoke, hehe, Adelaide, we are more at risk of Heart Worm.  Here in the Adelaide Hills it is extremely rare (colder weather maybe) and the Vet has not seen a case for years.  Anyhoo just to be on the safe side we had to be tested for Heart Worm.  I, being the smallest and most easily held bravest went first.

Mum held my head and told me how absolutely wonderful I was and Anna stole my blood.  She was so darn quick I didn't have time to even squeak.  Next it was Rory's turn.  He didn't get to go up on the table like me.  Don't know why.  Anyhoo, he just stood there with mum telling him he was wonderful too.  Before Rory could say, Muuuuuuuuuum, Anna was finished with him too.  Jeez she's fast.

So last thing we had our weight checked on the scales.  I was a trim, taut and terrific 14.4 kgs (31.7 lbs) and Rory was a cool 74 kgs (163 lbs)We said see ya later mates and off we went home.

About an hour later we got a phone call to say everything was fine and next week we go back for a once a year injection to prevent heartwork.  Easy Peasy.

Well, that's all for now folks.
No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  17. Poor Dad - but we DO like our routines and that was NOT the usual routine. Glad your checkups went so well. We need to talk to Mom about that annual heartworm shot, seems like it would be a lot easier than trying to remember to do the pill thingie every month.

Enjoy your toast and cuppa - cool new appliances.

  21. Of course your Momma had to have that toaster and coffee pot. I absolutely love them! I love the red appliances they have come out with and would love all of them for my kitchen too! 22. Clever and brave doggies!! And does Mum know how to shop!! :)

  23. Ha! We live at the vet's, thanks to Jed. Seems like we're there about once a week, thanks to Jed's self-inflicted leg wounds that get infected. We don't mind going at all, we're so used to it. And our vet has cookies on a tray in reception, and all Jed has to do is stand on his rear legs and he can eat right off the tray until mama drags him away. Glad you both had good check-ups. We'd never heard of annual HW shots, either. Not sure they have those here in the US; maybe American heart worms are different from Aussie heart worms? Or maybe it's because we live in a hotter climate than you do?

Sounds like dad needs to spend a little time just letting Rory practice getting in and out of the car and getting rewarded for doing it right. Although we bet he heard your pawrents talking and he knew this was a special trip he wasn't sure he wanted to take.

Mama thinks your mum's new kitchen appliances are gorgeous. Very cheery, and we love a cheery kitchen. We are only interested in toasters when they are actually producing nice buttered toast for us to wheedle bites of.

  24. Hahaha, Rory you are smart, hide into bushes to avoid the vet !!! Too bad it didn't work :-(

We are glad you two are fine !!

    Woos of love.

  27. Rory, you are too funny! You had your dad hiding in the bushes :) Treats will do the trick every time.

I'm glad that you're healthy, with no heart worm. I didn't know that it could be prevented with a yearly injection. We give a pill once a month...

Great photos. I love the contrast between the two of you!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Blimey that was a bit scary wasn't it? You were very brave though. Rory really is a big lad isn't he?! I weigh 32kg and Mum can just about pick me up (when I refuse to get in the car, funnily enough!) I guess there's non of that with you mate! Deccy x

  29. We're laughing over here!

First, my Mom said she completely understands about your Mom HAVING to go shopping. Yes, it was a necessity.

Rory our furend, what was going on with you? I mean we don't like the Vet either but we wait to get into the waiting room before we freak out. See that way, it makes them feel bad.

We're glad your bloodwork came out just fine. We (here in the states) take monthly meds for heartworm. I find it interesting that you get a yearly shot. Maybe that's something that my Mom can look into. that would be way better than monthly.

Hope you have a relaxing weekend and can recover from the stresses of life.

    Hugs,
    Lily Belle & Muffin

  30. We admit we laughed at the thought of Rory and dad "debating" whether to get in the car or not!

Glad that once you were there everything went smoothly and painlessly...and are howlingly happy that you are both in such good health.

  31. I'm so glad you're both healthy. I just noticed your kitty Penny in your sidebar. I have 2 kitties that live with me to.

  33. Thank goodness you both are clean with your health, and don't have to go back till next year. The vet is kinda scary for most of us,well except Jake he has a revolving door there. He acts like he owns the place when he goes. Rory not getting in the car Oh we can just picture it and were still laughing ( sorry dad that's so funny)

  34. I do believe Mum needed those spiffy red appliances. Good job your Dad was able to figure out how to get Rory in the car, though, because he's just to big to pick up and stuff in the car! Glad to hear that you're both so good at the Vet's office, but I knew you would be. And I'm especially glad you got clean bills of health! Woo Hoo!

  35. Rory you know how to work the Dad! Nice going... Wow we didn't know there were yearly shots for heartworm. We get something monthly. BTW we really like your header pic :-) We knew you were very different sized but when we saw your weights it really helped us realize how much different in size you two are. We really like that Rory has his "arm" around your shoulders Stella.
