Howdy Mates

Howdy Mates.  I'm here to let you know how my little brother Rory is going.  He's been trying to walk again butt it is so difficult for him and he doesn't know why his legs are all wonky.  I know I always say he's a real wimpy guts but this time I am SO PROUD of him.

He NEVER complains.  He ALWAYS tries to help mum and dad when they walk him and even though his poor foot drags along and gets sore, he NEVER gets grumpy.  Please don't worry though, mum puts a boot on his foot she made herself!  GASP!!  I know.  She's never sewn anything that has EVER stayed together butt she made a soft shoe sort of thingy for Rory's foot and it worked!  Now he drags his foot butt it is protected and his sores are starting to heal.  Mum puts cream on them every time he comes inside after a walk.

Rory, mate, don't lick off your cream.

Over the last few days, Rory can now stand unaided while he has a drink.  We stand alongside him with his towel under his belly in case he feels wobbly.  He can bear some weight on his right back leg and rests his dodgy left back leg on the ground.

He uses his right back leg most of the time when he walks but it isn't 100% strong and we still support his weight.  He is swinging his left back leg forward in a walking motion at times.  We get really excited and cheer him on.

Sometimes Rory chases rabbits in his sleep and runs with both back legs!!  Yay!  It gives us hope and gives him some exercise too!

I just want my brother to get well.  I know it will take time.  He has come a long way over the last 11 days.  See ya soon mates.

Here's a photo of mum's arm now, hehehehe.

Take care mates.
No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

Six Steps

Six steps unaided.
They were three legged, but, six steps!!!
Oh our Rory's been a trooper.

I'm sorry to say I had to use this photo of Stella
taken a couple of weeks ago.
Stella has been so gentle with Rory.
When Rory is back on his feet, I intend to give this little girl some quality one on one time.

Hope your Christmas has been relaxing and wonderful.

No worries, and love, Carol

Update for Rory and Merry Christmas

Howdy mates.  It's me Rory.  I asked mum if I could say thanks to everybuddy who sent get well wishes to me.  I'm home now.  I can't walk but I'm trying my best.  Mum and dad and my hu-siblings have been helping me get around.  They're using a bath towel like a sling under my hips to help lift and carry my big bottom out to the toilet.  I'm sorry to say I've had a couple of poo explosions inside the house.  My tummy was upset from my anesthetic after the MRI.  Mum just said to me "No worries Rory".  That carpet always was a crxp colour and now we can get it replaced".  I think she was trying to make a joke.  She's going feeble from the physical activity hehe.
Me on my pillows on the carpet.
BtPE (Before the Poo Explosion)

Me on my pillows on the lino
AtPE (After the Poo Explosion)!

Today it has been five days since I went down like a sack of spuds.  I did not know what the heck was happening with my back end.  My front legs wanted to work but the back ones must have gone on holiday.  Anyhoo, I had to stay at the Vets, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and came home Friday arvo.

Yaahoo, was I glad to be home.  Stella said I smelt rotten and was a bit scared to come near me.  She was wimping in the kitchen and wouldn't come on the carpet to see me.  What a sooky la la.  And she says I'm the wimp.  Anyhoo when mum fed me she was all like, Oh yeah Rory, I remember you now.  Can I have your tea mate?

Here I am enjoying some fresh air on my lounge chair.  I've got my new Crows Football team sock on my dodgy foot.  I have some sores on it from dragging it and mum puts my sock on when I try to walk.  She has been putting cream on the sores too.
I was also given a new toy.  A little doggie who has a body like Mr Frankie and Ernie.  He's got very strange eyes though.  Probably worried I will squash him in my sleep hehehe.

Anyhoo mates, I'm getting tired.

No worries, and slobber, Rory
and Stella

Hi from Carol.  Rory has been coming along pretty well.  Man oh man, it's been physically demanding.  I'm getting rid of my "bingo wings" with all the lifting haha.  Rory is trying to help us.  His right leg can bear some weight and he is trying to use it when walking.  His left is the problem but today I felt a sliver of hope when he managed to swing it forward, albeit dragging the foot, for a couple of steps.  Each day I hope for some slight improvement.  He has been a trooper.  Stella was very wary of him when he came home.  I presume because he smelt like the hospital.  Didn't take her long to want to steal his food though.  My only hope is that he learns to walk enough to get to the toilet and back.  That's all.  I worry when I am on my own with him.  So far though that has only been for one morning and we managed.

Thanks again everyone.  Your love and concern for our boy has overwhelmed me.  No wonder we love Blogville.  It's the most loving town in the world!

Take care.  Oh and thank you for all the Christmas cards.  We have received so many.  If I don't get round to visiting you all, we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and our family wishes you all a healthy and happy New Year.  Love Carol

P.S.  I will try and post brief updates if possible.
P.S.S.  Rory's condition is called Fibro Cartilaginous Embolism

Our Boy is Home!!!

Hi Everyone.  A quick update.  Rory is home.  He had final tests today which have cleared him of spinal tumours.  He has a very slight improvement in his right back leg meaning slight weight bearing.  Still no change in his left which drags on the ground when we move him.  We are putting socks on his foot when we take him outside.  As you can imagine this takes two of us and we use a type of sling under his hips.

He has only been home four hours.  I can never thank you all enough for your concern, love and good wishes for our boy.

I have hope that possibly by next week he will be able to hold some weight on his right leg thus helping when he needs a wee etc.

Our boy is tired and a little miserable but we are loving him up big time. This will be a lengthy rehab and we cannot be sure of the outcome.  We will do our best.

Stella was glad to see him but a little wary because he smelt different.

Christmas has come early to our home.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
No worries, and love,
Carol

More POTP for Rory please and an Update

Howdy Everyone.  Well it's been an extremely emotional 36 hours.  Rory is still at the Specialist clinic in the city.  He is about an hour's drive away from us and it seems like more.  I went to visit him today.  He was very excited to see my son and I and although he cannot stand he wiggled and snorted and was very happy.

As it stands today, he is paralysed in his left back leg and his right back leg has some movement which apparently is a good sign.  He cannot stand unsupported.  His diagnosis at the moment is an embolism in his spine.  He has no pain whatsoever.  There is no sign of disc damage.  At the moment we are waiting and hoping to see some improvement by Friday.

I can assure all our friends far and wide, he has had the best checks available and I have complete faith in his specialist.  She has been marvellous, supportive and so caring with our big boy.

I sat with him, loved him, told him to get better real soon as we are all heartbroken he is not home with us.  He slobbered on me to make me feel better.  He ate some biscuits I took there and the Specialist laughed and said what a mum's boy he was, wanting to be hand fed.  She said he had been wonderful, gentle and no trouble whatsoever.

We miss our boy.  We want him home.  We must wait.

I can't thank you all enough for your support.

Take care.  Love Carol

POTP FOR RORY PLEASE

Please everyone, Rory has lost the use of his back legs and has been rushed to the Vet.  We need your help.

Carol

Update on Rory:
Rory has been transferred from our Vet to a specialist in the city.  He has been thoroughly checked and believed to have suffered an embolism in his spine.  He is staying at the Vets tonight and possibly longer depending on how he is.  God it's been awful.   The vet believes he will recover with time.  Some dogs recover within days, some weeks and some months so it is a wait and see situation.
Will update tomorrow when I have seen him again.  Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts.
Love Carol

Good help is soooo hard to find.

Howdy Mates.  Sheesh, where do we start.  We've been BEGGING mum to get her arxe into gear.  All she has been doing lately, according to her, is Christmas shopping.  Which we take to mean, drinking numerous cups of coffee and scoffing down muffins by the dozens.  Then she comes home with bags of stuff which don't smell interesting in the least and she hasn't even brought home anything for us.  She says we'll have to wait for Father Christmas to arrive.

We're about ready to sell her to the highest bidder butt, well, since it was her birthday, and she is getting pretty old, we thought we'd give her another chance.  Also sissy had made Hummingbird cake and we wanted some hehe.

I was so happy she was finally on the 'puter, I sat on her lap, washed Stellie's face and then we had a game of bitey face.  Mum, moaned about her legs getting pins and needles butt I knew she was just joking.

Mum, you know Rory looks totally ridiculous don't you?
Oh and it's time for my breakfast.
No mum, I won't wait.
Now please.  Mum.  I don't want to have to say it again.
Breakfast now please.

Well mates, we have paws crossed we'll be visiting you soon.
Hope everything is great at your place.

No worries, and love, Stella, Rory and Penny (although why my name is last I don't know.  I am, of course, the most important in this household!)

Christmas Tree is Up and Running

Howdy Everybuddy.
We put our christmas tree up last weekend.
It was fun.  Well, until mum started getting the decorations out.
Then it went pear shaped, or more to the point, snowman shaped.
I thought only Mr Frankie had the (shiver, shake) snowmans at his house.  I never dreamed we had them here too!

Here's Stella.  The bravest sissy in the world.
Oh for gosh sakes mum.
Take the photo would ya.
A girl can only hold this pose for so long.

Where do I have to sit mum?
In front of the tree?  Ok.

What was that???

SNOWMEN, ARGHHHHH!

Bloody hell Rory, now you've got me freakin' out.
Argh, mum, Stella, save me, for the love of dog.
Muuuuum, just take the darn photo will ya!
Rory, you've made my hair stand on end you big baby.

Just calm down and look at the pretty decorations.
Ahhh, nice little puggie.

 Pretty little birdie.

A rememberance bauble for Brucey and Oscar.

Angel Nana's little wreath.

Stellie, I'm gonna bag the snowmen up
and post them to Mr Frankie's mum.

No way Rory.  The snowman is our friend.
He just wants to be part of Christmas.

LOOK OUT RORY, BEHIND YOU!

Hehehe, I think I'm gonna have fun with this!

Rory, look at the pretty lights.  Rory?   Rory?

Mum, can I sleep with you tonight?

Sure Rory, no worries little man.
Thanks mum.
Hey Stellie, I'm allowed to sleep in mum's room tonight!
Aww, totally unfair.  Muuuuuum, can I sleep in there too?
Ok, but just this once.  And no farting you two or you're out!

Zzzzzzzzzz........phrrrrt......zzzzzzzzzz
