Penny saves the day, Rory's walk and RIP Daisy

Howdy Everybuddy.  We had some excitement the other day.  Mum's in the shower and sissy comes banging on the door, freaking out cause there is a mouse in the toilet.  Well, not actually swimming in the toilet but in the room itself.  Mum yells out, "what did you do?" and sissy says "I shut the door and locked it in there".  I could hear mum sigh from the lounge room hehe.

She gets out of the shower (no rest for the wicked we say), gets dressed and peeps through a crack in the doorway to the toilet.  Yep.  Sure enough, there he is hiding behind the toilet roll holder.  Mum is in a fluster, wondering how she can get it out.  Now for any mousey bloggers out there, you'd better not read any more cause it gets nasty.

Mum gets a mouse trap out, spreads some peanut paste on it and slides it into the toilet.  The trouble is, how long can we wait for mousey to take the bait?   Mum realises time is short, she has to work and drastic measures are needed.

When there's something strange,
in your neighbourhood,
who ya gonna call??
No, no, no, not the ghostbusters.  It's Penny the Magnificant Mouser.   Mum gets Penny, who as a 14 year old has quite the experience of catching mice, opens the toilet door, chucks her in and slams the door shut.  She yells at sissy to open the door to outside, waits one minute and opens the door.  Penny of course has poor mousey in her mouth, runs straight outside and well, end of story for mousey.

Anyhoo two minutes later, Penny races back inside, runs for the toilet and starts looking around for more.  No luck we're happy to say.  Just the one this time.

So, even though Penny is pretty old, she's still got it.  Once our Dad saw her eat a mouse and the tail was still wriggling!!  Ooops, sorry, hope no one was eating breakfast.

Did someone say mouse??

Mates, here's another video of me walking.  Mum was trying to do some obedience but she's hopeless cause she hasn't done any for a while.  You can see my leggie is still a bit wonky but the other day I actually sort of galloped at the oval and mum and dad were happy.  I still have some trouble getting up at times, sometimes my leg just flips out from under me, but all in all, I'm doing pretty darn good.

 Rory's walk (watch here)

Well mates, that's about it.  Love the ones you're with.
No worries, and slobber, Rory, Stella, and Penny.

We have just heard that a dear friend, Daisy
has left for the Rainbow Bridge.  Run fast, run free sweet girl.

  2. Rory, you are doing so well! We are very proud of you! And your mom is working so well with you on your training. We especially like the part where YOU trained HER to put the leash around her neck! We MUST learn how to train our pawrents that way! Well done mate!

And on a sad note, we share in everyone's sadness about Daisy. She will be missed by her family for she was well loved.

    Your Pals,

  3. We, are the mouse catchers in our house. Well, we terrorized them until they left voluntarily.

Rory, you look so good walking and we're impressed how well you've trained your peep. She heels well, and will walk right around you. Well done.

Thanks for the lovely words about our Daisy. It's been a difficult day. Lots of tears, but we've been taking HER for walks and stuff to make HER feel better.

  12. We are so sorry to hear about dear Daisy and will visit her family with condolences. Sad it takes a doleful event to push mama and her wonky arm to the computer.

We are, however, most joyous to see Rory moving so well on the Oval and breaking into a gentle cantor. Well done, mate! We hope you keep getting better and better and eventually can leave off your sock.

Congrats to Penny! Mama had a mouse in the kitchen many years before we came. At the time, the household included 3 Danes, 2 mixed-breed rescue dogs and 5 cats. Mama tried the same trick, shutting 3 of the cats in the kitchen with the mouse. The flipping cats PLAYED with the mouse but never killed it. Mama was totally disgusted. Jed figures each cat thought it was another cat's job to dispatch the mouse. Abby would have dispatched the cats.
