Howdy and an update.

Howdy Mates.  Just an update on what's happening over our way.  Mum is still bandaging my feet every two days and sometimes twice a day when it's wet and my boots get muddy.  Yes, I did chew a nail on my good foot but I have not chewed my feet/nails for about two months now :-)  Sometimes she sighs and looks sorta worn out but I'm a good boy and lay still while she washes and disinfects my toes, puts padding between my toes, wraps it in a big bandage and then puts my boot on top of that.    After all that, would you believe she gives me a huge hug and a treat.  It's the easy life for me mates.  Mum says my nails are slowly, very slowly starting to grow back.  See I virtually chewed them right off.  I know, I know, I'm a nut case for doing it but they felt funny and sorta numb and I didn't realise what I was doing.   My walking is still wobbly, probably more wobbly since "the feet eating incident" as we like to call it, cause I can't exercise my legs as much anymore cause if I do my toes start to bleed.  Do not worry though.  I am happy and loving life.   I still LOVE to bark at the Postman and anyone else who comes to the door.  I'm eating like a horse (hehe, get it, a horse, me, have ya got a saddle for that thing?).

See here we are enjoying the sun this morning.  You know how mum said I can't get on the lounge, well now I do and she doesn't care (well not much anyway hehe).

Our Dad has been on the sick list for the last nine weeks.  He has to have an operation on his neck/spine but we're not sure when yet.  He is ok, but not able to work and has to take tablets each day.  On the plus side he and mum are able to go out for coffee and cake.  A lot.  Mum loves coffee and cake hehe.  The Dr is arranging everything and we are waiting to hear from him.

When people ask how we're going mum says, we're "plonking along".  It's a good word.  Plonking - we think it means, "to get through each day as best you can when things are a bit rough".

So mates, take care and we'll visit when we can.
No worries, and slobber, Rory and Stella

Glad you're plonkin' along. Sometimes that the only thing you can do. Hope those feet get better soon...ready for Spring. You hafta get out then.

Thanks for the update. We DO wonder what you're up too. Oh and hope your dad can get his op soon, so he can go with you on walks.

  10. Gidday Rory and Stella,

Your mum deserves a medal, for all she is doing and something written in ink on your kitchen calendar to look forward to (e.g. shopping spree, a short holiday, dinner or a special outing, etc) for when your family is all better. Enzo and I are sending POTP to your dad.

Now we don't know if this applies to dogs, but you said Rory chews his foot a lot, and one of our human's friends just had two of her human toes amputated because she hurt them and couldn't feel anything because of her diabetes. I don't know if dogs feel less in their feet for this reason, but just saying in case you mum or vet has noticed anything else going on with Rory besides the chewy foot thing.

Have a great weekend and Go the All Blacks tonight!!!!!

    Woofs,
    Riley

  11. Hi there Rory and Stella,
Good to hear from you guys. Sometimes life goes through a 'plonking along phase'. Here's wishing that Rory's feet continue to recover so he can walk around more easily and that Dad's operation goes well. And that Mum stays sane throughout. Oh and best wishes to Stella too.
    Toodle pip!

  13. OMD we say we hope the plonking along will end soon with daddy being better and you Big R back up and about with all your nails back. Sounds like coffee and cake is needed each day big time. Sending POTP and healing vibes to you Big R and virtual hugs to daddy and mummy.

  15. your Mom is just the bestest ever - we are sending her lots of hugs as we know is isn't easy looking after you and your dad too. She deserves a 'special Mom' medal we think. Now just try to leave those toes alone Rory - we know they feel funny but you need them for walking. PS Andrea is doing better - she didn't get all movement back like they hoped but every day a little stronger and she asks about you often.

  16. Hi All,
Has Rory been checked for a thyroid problem?????? When Joker would bite his hind feet and nails it turned out to be his thyroid. I bandaged him everyday for 3 years!!!! Then we found out it was his thyroid that was causing the itch and with just 2 pills he stopped!!

  17. Looks like a great sun puddle Rory....now leaves them feet alone. Yep that a good word plonking, sometimes thats the bestest in lieu of getting all worked up over everything. Gots our paws crossed for Pops, hope the Doc gets him all fixed up!

  18. We're kind of plonking along here too. Fudge and Noah have sick tummies and Noah is having a bump removed next week. Morgan is getting around as best she can being old and deaf and half blind. But we take it a day at a time and enjoy each day together. Take good care of yourselves and don't eat your feet.

  19. We will be keeping your dad in our thoughts and prayers. You look so happy enjoying your sun puddle, Rory!

  20. It was good to read an update on how you all are doing and to know that you're plonking along! Your Mom is an excellent nurse, and I'm glad that she is able to get out at least for a while and enjoy coffee and cake! Take care, and know that we're still sending lots of prayers and healing vibes from our corner of the world!!

  21. We are finally home from the snow hollingday and we are sneaking around the blogs to see all the stuff we have missed! We are so happy that you are happy Rory and hope and pray your paws/toes continue to get better. I loves your boots too - a little bigger than my snow boots!! My mum would love to do coffee and cake (the German background in her you know!) but can't because she has to lose another 7-8 kg before she can have her operation. Sorry to hear about your dad's condition - the op will be tough mum says, but after he will be so much better!!

  22. Hey, nice to have the update. Hope your dad has a successful surgery soon and is on his way to a speedy recovery.

Wow, you're mom's got a lot to stress about around there. Sounds like a hospital at your house!

Sorry your paws still have ouchies. Ditto on the comment above- about checking the thyroid. It's worth a try. If you do run tests, look at this website (our vet) http://www.hemopet.org/veterinary-diagnostic-laboratory.html. She's super famous for this. You want your vet to run the tests on the thyroid 5 panel. Anything less may miss a problem.

Food allergies are another huge cause of the foot biting.
Our dog had both until we addressed the thyroid issue and changed her food. No problems at all now.
I know there can be other reasons, but it's worth checking those.

Ha!! Classic Dane sit!! Love it :)

  25. How lovely to see and hear from you!!
Rory, we're so happy to hear that you haven't gnawed on your toes for 2 whole months - that is fantastic progress and a pawsome show of will power. We are keeping our paws crossed for both you and your dad.
BIG licks to both you and Stella!

  26. Sometimes plonking is harder than other times, especially when those you love are struggling. So Rory you need to be a really big boy and not nibble your toes so your mum can concentrate on your dad. And Stella, you need to be in charge for awhile and give your mum some more time to eat cake.

  27. I had surgery on my back 4 years ago, and it's made a world of difference in how I feel. I can't lift more than 15 pounds any more - the boys have to get turkeys and even big chickens in and out of the oven for me - but that's a small price to pay. I hope your Dad gets his surgery scheduled soon, even though Mum will miss coffee and cake with him. And Rory, stop eating your feet! It will make Mum so happy!

  29. There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both boys and girls feel the impact of just a moment’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives. Information Information Information
