Howdy from Stella

Howdy Mates, just popping by to say howdy.   In the last few months mum and dad have become grandparents again and now have three grandaughters and one grandson.  We are very lucky.  I, Stella, am so good with the kids and mum is proud of me.  Here's me, in case you forget what I look like (glares at mum).  I am now 7 1/2 years old and mum can't believe it. 

It is Spring here now and next Tuesday I'm off for a haircut cause there are lots of prickles around and it's starting to warm up.   Take care everybuddy.

Penny and the mouse.

Howdy mates.  I, Stella, was lucky the other day to have our old Penny cat back me up in a mouse hunt.  Well actually, she was the leader, I followed behind.  A lot behind.  Our dad was in the family room and a little mouse decided to jump on the chair near him.  Cheeky blighter.  When dad moved it jumped behind the lounge chair and when we investigated there was mouse poo there.  Ewwww.  They always come inside when our cold weather starts.  

Anyhoo, mum yells, get Penny!  Dad moves the chairs out and Penny sniffs around with me right behind her.  No mouse.  Phew.  Dad gets the vacuum out and starts cleaning and all of a sudden, Penny pounces and has the mouse.  We let her outside, and you don't want to hear the rest of that story!  

Needless to say, mum and dad were proud of her.  I, Stella, got absolutely no recognition for my part in the hunt.  

Here is our old girl.  Penny, 18 1/2 years old, she has dementia, advanced kidney disease, is deaf and has dodgy eyesight but can still catch a mouse.

Hello from

Howdy Mates, we just wanted to say howdy and let you know we still love you and think of you.  Our human family has grown by another little grandaughter, named Scarlett who was born November 2017.  So now there are three grandaughters and another baby due in July 2018 so busy times for us all.  

Our daughter is visiting America and Canada at the moment and having a wonderful time.  She says the people are so friendly but the weather has been quite a bit colder (well a LOT) colder than she has ever experienced.   We miss her being so very far away.  She will be back in two weeks (a total of five weeks away).  

I, Stella, have been well and getting spoilt being an only dog.  We walk a lot and still look after my two lab cousins while their mum (my sissy) is away so I do have company.  My cousin Jinx (the kelpie) passed away October 2017 at the grand age of 17.  We miss her.

Howdy from Stella

Howdy mates.  

Hope everyone is going well.  We are good.  I have been going on a lot of walks with mum and dad.  Usually the same track we have always done and it is about 5km.  We love this track because it is peaceful with occasional other walkers and their dogs.  I am allowed to run off lead and come back when I'm called (unless I see a rabbit then mum says I am a nutjob).  

 I have a new bed.  It is very comfortable.

Here is a photo of mum in the Adelaide Botanical Gardens.  It is a favourite place for mum and dad but no dogs are allowed.

Autumn in Oz and Cooee from Stella

Howdy Mates

I know, I know, it's been too long, but we have had you all in our hearts even though we've been missing.  

In the last year we have had so many changes in our lives.  Two grandaughters to love and enjoy, our darling Rory passing to the Rainbow Bridge and my Dad has retired.  It's been a year of change.

Mum's been kind of floating through this last year.  We miss our Rory so much and life at home is not the same without him but that's life isn't it.  We never know what is around the corner.  

So, I whispered in mum's ear and told her to come visit again.  Blogville is the place to go where life is mostly fun and filled with love.

She is 16 months now and Susanna is 9 months).

Sunday Morning

Howdy Mates.  We are having a lovely quiet Sunday morning with mum.  We like to keep her company when she gets up early and no one else is up.  Would you believe our Penny is 17 years old now.  The other day she gave mum a scare cause she was outside on the garden chair and was all sort of floppy.  Mum thought she'd had a stroke and carefully carried her inside and lay her on a blanket.  Well, after a minute, a darn long minute, Penny sits up, meows and jumps off the lounge and has a drink of milk.  WTH????  Mum says, no worries, she has plenty of hair colour left to deal with the greys, bwahahahaha.

Howdy Mates.  Merry Christmas to you all and we wish you a peaceful, healthy and happy New Year.

As usual mum had to dress me up for Christmas, sigh.  Actually don't tell her, but I quite like it, hehe.

We had a lovely day with all the family here although our Christmas Day was around 40C (104F) so the air conditioner got a bit of a hammering.  We still had our traditional hot lunch and plum pudding and everyone was full as a goog by the end.

Spring days are here at last.

Howdy Mates.   We have finally had some beautiful Spring weather and I have been spending time in the garden with Penny.
 

Would you believe Penny was 17 in October this year.  She is still very fit and healthy.  She loves sleeping a lot though.

We put our tree up the other day.  I think it looks so good.  There are many memories on this tree with all the different decorations reminding us of times past.   Our little Evie reminds us of future times too when she wants to play with our decorations hehe.

My new cousin.

Howdy mates.  I have a new cousin.  Her name is Umi (pronounced like Youme) and she is nearly three years old.  She is living with my sissy and my cousin Tyler.  She is very sweet even though I had to sort of boss her around a bit.  I don't know why I did but I'm ok now.  She was training to be a Guide Dog but they found out she just loves other dogs too much and gets excited when she sees them.  So luckily for us she is now living with Sissy and will train to be a Search and Rescue Dog.

Mum bought a new pillow for the lounge.  It's not Rory's photo but it is very similar and we smile when we look at it.

Sit and Stay

 Howdy Mates.  I have been getting very fit lately.  I've been going on heaps of walks with mum and dad.  Mum likes to make me sit and stay while she takes my photo.  This old tree is pretty high and I must admit, I was nervous but I stayed still while mum got this shot.  (Dad had to lift me up here and if you think my back leg looks wonky, it's actually my tail!).

 Then there was this photo.  On a sand pile.  Really mum?  Really?  You think this is artistic?  I nearly blend in with the sand, hehehe.

Walking the track.

Howdy Mates.  Just wanted to let you know we are doing ok.  Not great, but ok.  I have been going on lots of walks with mum and dad.  I went walking sometimes with them, but mum always felt guilty leaving Rory home cause he couldn't come too.  Now she doesn't feel guilty, just sad, but I am trying to be very good and cheer her up.

This old tree fell down years ago and it has a hole right through the middle of it.  It's really big (but doesn't look it).

Here is Stone Man.  Mum and Dad made him about 10 years ago on the track where we walk.  Twice someone has broken him up but they just build him again.

Here is cousin Tyler.  He stays with us when his mum is away working.  Mum's heart broke just a little when she saw him like this.  Rory always slept with his head hanging like this!

Howdy from Stella

Howdy Mates.  We are overwhelmed and want to thank each and every one of our furriends who left messages of sympathy and support for our family.  It has been a horrible week.  Our home seems so empty without our Rory.  He used to follow mum around everywhere and she was always having to squeeze past him or tell him to back up (which he could do, but in a very very slow way).  

Mum and the family have cried many tears and sometimes it helps a little but sometimes it doesn't.  It just sucks.  

I have been fine.  Mum was worried about me but I was worried about her so I have been really good and giving her lots of cuddles and love.  Dad moved Rory's bed out of the lounge room for two days, then we moved it back.  That big space was just too sad to look at.  As you can see, I have taken over Rory's bed.  I think he would be ok with that.  Mum bought me a new cover for it so it would be clean but she misses the smell of Rory.  

Me and Penny have been hanging out together.  We even played chasey yesterday and Dad thought we had both gone nuts.  We probably have.  

So mates, we are hanging in there.  Thanks again for supporting us.  Blogville is the most caring place in the world.

Rory has gone to the Rainbow Bridge

Dear Friends

It is with a deep deep sadness I have to tell you that we helped Rory to the Rainbow Bridge on Monday 10 October 2016.  Our great big, sweet darling boy has gone.  We are utterly heartbroken.  

He had been unwell for a short time and last Wednesday we took him to the Vet.  He had a temperature, high heart rate and seemed very unwell.  After checking him out our Vet diagnosed what she thought was a chest infection.  He was given antibiotics and we brought him home.

He did seem to rally, but by Saturday was really bad and stopped eating.  We once again had to help him to walk with a sling as he had no strength in his back legs.  We kept up his fluids and antibiotics and he again rallied Sunday, but Monday morning was again very flat and we took him back to the Vets thinking he would go on a drip and perk up till he started eating.  Upon further examination, our dear Vet, whom we love dearly, found a large painful mass near his stomach.  He had shown no signs of pain before this.  Another of our Vets also checked Rory and after discussing all options, we decided our big darling boy could not suffer anymore.  For the last six months his legs have been getting considerably worse.  It broke my heart to see him trying to walk.

He left us surrounded by his loving family.  I told him I loved him and kissed his dear sweet face.  

It is so bloody unfair.  Rory, my big goofy boy, you never complained.  You had your stupid embolism and got over that, you chewed your feet, you had gastro and now the shitty cancer has taken you.  I want you back.  I miss you so much.  My heart has broken.  Run fast run free Rory.  You deserved so much more.  Five years and three months is not long enough.  Never long enough.  We will love you forever big fella.  Always will.  You gave us your sweet pure love and asked for nothing in return.  Oh Rory, I miss you and our home is so empty without you.  Stella is on your big bed.  We don't know how she will be without you to boss around.
