Dear Mates. Oh I am so relieved. Rory went to the Vets today and had surgery on his foot. WITHOUT ANAESTHETIC! Yep that's correct.
We have finally found he has no feeling at all in his left foot and that is probably why he has chewed it. He went for a check today to make sure the antibiotics were working, and yes they are, but the wound in his toe was still gaping and horrible. We saw a relief Vet and he was WONDERFUL. I explained all of Rory's history (although he had read up on his notes) and when he examined his foot and tested the sensation (or lack of), he decided then and there to operate. On the floor. On his stomach, with Rory lying in front of him, dozing because it was all so boring. What a Vet and what a dog. He has stitched (about 10 stitches) most of the toe up and it looks sooooo much better. The relief I feel of not having to look into that wound is sooo good.
So now, we have eight weeks of healing of the wound, and probably many many months of nail healing but I don't care! I feel refreshed. So to all of you out there in Blogville thank you for your caring thoughts for our big boy. We just love him so much and he has been such a trooper all during this last year. Love and Merry Christmas to you all. Yaahoo.
Love Carol

ReplyDeleteHi Carol, well you've done way better than my dad. Don't forget, he ran out and waited in the hallway for my little bumpie to be removed and stitched. We're hopeful that the next period of recovery will be uneventful and that the "big guy" will be back, healthy and fine. Merry Christmas Carol and to your extended family as well from your friends in Canada.

Good news indeed!

Stay safe over there! We heard you've got some fire issues going on. Got you in our prayers.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Lily Belle & Muffin
Prayers that you are kept safe from the fires.
ReplyDeleteWe had a similar experience with Sebastian. The vet was able to operate on his hip with no meds because so much of the skin is just scar tissue. He seems to have gotten rid of whatever was in there irritating the area.
ReplyDeleteStay safe, we're all thinking about you.
Sending prayers and POTP that you guys are all safe over there.
